WHAT DO GOOD BLOGGERS DO?

THINK ABOUT THIS:

When you press PUBLISH, what you have written is instantly visible all around the world. Make sure you think carefully about what you write in blogs and in comments and always follow these rules.

BE SAFE:

  • Do not use your full name – leave out your last name.
  • Don’t be specific when writing about yourself. eg. Say: “I play basketball for a local team” rather than “I play for the Bank Street All Stars”.
  • Never publicise your address, email address or phone number. The blog is a place to make contact easily through making and receiving comments.
  • Do not post photos of others without their permission.
  • Parents who leave comments are asked not to use last names either. (Please post comments as “Jimmy’s mum” or “Megan’s grandfather”, etc.)
  • All comments submitted have to be approved by a teacher before they are included on the blog.

BE RESPECTFUL

  • Don’t say anything that might be offensive to someone else.
  • Be considerate of others. When commenting, show others that you have read what they have written rather than just saying “great job”.
  • Be open to other people’s opinions, but be prepared to discuss your own position if you don’t agree.

BE LITERATE

  • You know about good grammar, spelling and punctuation. Apply it!
  • Proof-read your posts and comments carefully, as inappropriate or sloppy writing will not be approved. Students should check for spelling and grammar errors before submitting a comment.
  • Only teachers have access to post things on the blog. When students write blog entries, they will go through edits and revisions before a teacher posts them.
  • Always write in full sentences and words – no “text talk” please!
  • You are broadcasting yourself to the world. Present yourself in the best possible light.
